From Loděnice to the Edge of Space: 75 Years of GZ Media
This year marks 75 years since the very first vinyl record was pressed in Loděnice, Czech Republic. What started as a single production site became the foundation of a tradition that continues to this day – and a story that has long expanded far beyond the borders of our country. Over the decades, vinyl has experienced its ups and downs, yet it has never truly disappeared. Today, it is once again a beloved format for music fans around the world. And throughout all those years, production in Loděnice has remained an important part of our story.
Since the very beginning, we have produced more than 930 million vinyl records. If we were to stack them on top of each other, the column would reach nearly 1,400 kilometres into the sky. That is about 14 times beyond the edge of space – and several times higher than the orbit of the International Space Station. It’s a striking way to show how far we’ve come – and it is something that truly means a lot to us.
In a few days, we will celebrate this milestone together with our employees, partners, and friends. But beyond the numbers and milestones, this anniversary is about something much more important. Above all, it is about our people. It is about those who understand their craft, care about what they do, and continue to build on the expertise passed down through generations. Their knowledge and dedication are what have enabled us to grow and evolve over the years.
From a single manufacturing plant in Loděnice, we have grown into a global company with 10 sites worldwide. This journey reflects decades of development, innovation, and collaboration across teams and regions. And yet, despite this growth, the essence of who we are remains unchanged.
Seventy-five years is an important milestone – but our story continues – shaped by the people who create it, support it, and believe in it.
Thank you to everyone who has been part of it so far.
